Radiesse

Radiesse is safe and effective, next generation dermal filler used for the correction of facial lines, wrinkles and folds, as well as facial contouring, It provides more longevity than any of the other leading dermal fillers on the market today.  Radiesse is FDA approved for cosmetic use and is well known for immediate satisfaction and long term results.

Radiesse is made of unique calcium-based microspheres that are suspended in a natural gel that is injected into the skin during a minimally invasive procedure.

For the first three months after injection, Radiesse acts as a typical filler substance by ‘filling’ lines and wrinkles and plumping up the skin. Then due to its unique collagen-generating properties, Radiesse actually stimulates new tissue development for extended correction for up an additional year. Radiesse is respected for its durability, longevity, and versatility.

Why have fillers become so popular?

Over time, tissue volume in the face diminishes, leaving what is commonly seen as lines and wrinkles, including the deepening of nasolabial folds, accentuated smile lines (sometimes called “marionette lines”), fallen cheek pads and sagging jaw lines. In the hands of an experienced practitioner, filler injections can give you  a dramatic, but natural looking result and a fresh, revitalized  appearance-that still looks like you!.

What can Radiesse injections be used for?

Prominent nasolabial folds (from corner of nose to mouth), smile lines and oral commissures
Marionette lines at corners of the mouth
Deep wrinkle correction
Chin augmentation
Filling cheek depressions
Softening acne scars
Correcting facial depressions caused by fat loss
Softening the appearance of jowls

How soon can I expect to see results?  How long will the results last?

The results from Radiesse injections are immediate. Radiesse then continues to produce results as it stimulates the body to produce new collagen. The aesthetic benefits from Radiesse last for a total of 12-15 months, longer than other leading cosmetic dermal filler, saving you time and money. Since the longevity is determined by a number of factors, the physicians will be able to give you more specific expectations at time of consultation.

How do Radiesse injections work?

Radiesse works below the skin’s surface. Tiny calcium-based microspheres form a “scaffold” to support and stimulate the growth of your own collagen to create a natural, full, youthful look. Radiesse does more than just temporarily fill-in facial lines and wrinkles ─ it rebuilds your skin’s foundation, without the risks associated with permanent fillers.

What are the benefits and drawbacks of Radiesse compared to other fillers?

The unique composition of Radiesse provides immediate visual improvement and the benefit of long-lasting results due to its ability to generate collagen in the skin. It is probably the most cost effective filler and the ideal choice for facial shaping and contouring. Compared to other dermal fillers this filler requires more expertise to inject so look for a provider that uses this product regularly.

We do see a bit more swelling right after Radiesse injections compared to other dermal fillers, though this generally resolves on its own in about 1-2 days. The injection process also tends to be a bit more uncomfortable, though the application of a topical anesthetic to the skin beforehand helps greatly. Radiesse can not be used in the lips or in the frown area.

Is Radiesse permanent?

Treatment results are relatively long-lasting, but not permanent. Over time the tiny calcium-based microspheres gradually break down into basic calcium and phosphate ions which are safely and naturally absorbed into your body, leaving your own collagen in their place.

How is a Radiesse treatment performed? Is downtime required?

After a complete evaluation and discussion, pre-treatment photos are obtained and the skin is numbed with a topical anesthetic. Radiesse is then injected into the skin using ultra-fine needles during a procedure that takes approximately 20-30 minutes. We apply some ice at the office and you leave ready to resume your day. Little or no downtime is expected after Radiesse injections. It is suggested to avoid intense sun exposure, extremes of cold and exercise for 24 hours. If any lumpiness is detected after 2-3 days, it is recommended that you return to the office for evaluation.

Could I have an allergic reaction or other side effects from Radiesse?

Radiesse is biocompatible, meaning there is virtually no risk of an allergic reaction. You do not need to undergo skin allergy testing, common for certain animal-based or permanent filler agents.

Normal, injection-related reactions such as mild irritation, edema, swelling, itching, discoloration, or tenderness at the injection site may occur.  These conditions typically resolve on their own within one to two days.

What should I do prior to treatment?

For a one week period before injections, one should avoid taking St. John’s wart, high doses of vitamin E, aspirin, Advil, Nuprin and any other agents that can increase bruising.
