Understanding eMatrix

eMatrix is one of the latest entries in the lunch-time skin rejuvenation category. eMatrix is not a laser- or light-based therapy. Instead, eMatrix uses radiofrequency waves to treat your skin from the inside out. eMatrix targets your skin’s lower layers - the root of many skin problem like fine lines, wrinkles, skin laxity or acne scars. The energy goes deep beneath the skin’s surface to stimulate the development of new collagen, the main structural protein that gives your skin that supple, elastic quality most associated with youth.

The energy penetrates your skin’s top layer without overheating it. This technology, known as sublative rejuvenation, translates into less downtime for you.

Are you a Candidate for eMatrix?

If you are concerned about fine lines, wrinkles, acne scars, skin laxity, sun spots, and/or stretch marks, you may be a candidate for sublative rejuvenation with eMatrix. Unlike other skin freshening procedures, eMatrix can be used on all skin types – even darker complexions.

eMatrix is based around the same fractionated technology used with certain lasers including the Fraxel. eMatrix employs energy to create tiny, pin-head sized wounds in the dermis or deepest layer of your skin. The untreated skin around each wound is stimulated to repair the treated area via a collagen-stimulating, controlled wound-healing process. The epidermis or upper layer of your skin remains untouched and undamaged.

The radio waves are not absorbed by the pigment cells which give the skin color, so it does not cause trauma, keloid scarring or other skin discoloration-type side effects.

The best way to determine if sublative rejuvenation with eMatrix is right for you is to schedule a consultation with a physician who has extensive experience in all available skin care procedures. He or she will examine your skin, and tell you which treatment(s) will best address for your skin type and concerns.

eMatrix Treatment –A Step-by-Step Guide

The face will be cleansed and a numbing cream or cooling agent may be applied to the treatment area. This should take place about 30 minutes before your eMatrix procedure begins. eMatrix can be custom-tailored to your skin care needs via a SelectPlus feature that provides options for mild, moderate and deep treatments. Exactly how long your treatment will last depends upon the size of the treated area. A full-face treatment usually takes about 20-30 minutes. Some people report a heat or prickly sensation during the treatment that occurs as the energy enters their skin.

Most areas do require multiple treatments that are spaced about four to six weeks apart.

Ablative therapies, such as some of the older lasers, cause significant downtime because they remove the top layer or your skin, leaving visible and painful wounds. Not eMatrix. You can go back to the office or your normal life immediately after your eMatrix treatment. That said, you may develop a pinkish hue that looks and feels like sunburn and/or small dots on the treated area. These dots may last for a day or so before disappearing, and may be followed by dryness.

Cosmetic results may become apparent after your first eMatrix treatment, and these results will improve with each subsequent treatment. eMatrix results last a full year or more after your final treatment.
