The Cellulite procedure by Thermage offers patients an option to improve the appearance of cellulite without surgery or injections. It is performed during one treatment session and requires no preparation before or downtime after the procedure.

Thermage uses patented monopolar radiofrequency energy to gently heat the deep layers of the skin being treated, specifically the dermis and subcutaneous tissues. This results in enhanced collagen synthesis in the connective tissue of the skin and improved blood flow, which causes a noticeable smoothing and tightening of the surface of the skin and improved appearance of cellulite.

The Thermage system is FDA cleared to improve the appearance of cellulite. The cellulite procedure is the newest in a suite of procedures under the Body by Thermage™ umbrella which provides contouring and tightening of the skin of the abdomen, arms and legs.

The cellulite fighting device by Thermage underwent extensive clinical evaluation over a period of approximately 21 months before its release.

The treatment requires no downtime and provides long lasting results after only one treatment. Results become evident a short time after the procedure and continue for up to six months. Side effects are rare.

Thermage is safe for treatment of patients with all skin colors.

Is there any pain involved?

The cellulite treatment using Thermage takes one to two hours and is quite comfortable. No anesthesia or preparation is required for the treatment. The procedure feels like a brief, deep heating sensation while the radiofrequency energy is delivered to the skin and tissue. Patient feedback helps the doctor minimize the level of discomfort while optimizing results.

What type of results can you expect after one treatment?

The patient satisfaction rate after the Thermage cellulite procedure is high. There is a predictable improvement in the appearance of cellulite after one treatment, as well as a desirable change in the contour of the body region being treated. Patients need to know that the cellulite will improve, but usually not disappear.  Patients with severe cellulite and laxity of the skin are not good candidates for this procedure

What is cellulite? Can you prevent cellulite from forming?

Nearly 90% of the female population suffers from cellulite and it is a major cause of concern for many women. Unfortunately there is nothing that can be done to prevent its formation, though we advise that women stay physically active and maintain healthy diet and lifestyles because weight gain makes cellulite look worse.Cellulite gives the skin a dimpled, lumpy or pillowed appearance. It is caused by an irregularity in the distribution of fat in the buttocks, thighs, hips, abdomen or arms. As women age, there is a loss of elasticity of the connective tissue of the skin and congestion in the area due to declining levels of lymph drainage. The fat cells in body enlarge and they become trapped within these stiffened bands of connective tissue, resulting in this lumpy appearance of the skin that we call cellulite.Cellulite has a genetic basis and is unrelated to a woman’s body habitus or dietary intake.  All women, thin and heavy, get cellulite. It generally begins in the mid twenties and increases over time.

Is there anything you can do at home to get rid of cellulite?

Presently there are no at home remedies scientifically proven to treat cellulite, despite the promises made by the manufacturers of the many thousands of products on the market for this condition. Products include topical creams and lotions, dietary supplements, mechanical devices and botanical wraps.

Cellulite creams have never been proven to alter the appearance of cellulite, despite the many promises made by the manufacturers of these non FDA approved products. Cellulite is a problem of the deep layers of the skin, thus topical remedies such as the ones containing caffeine are not helpful! If any changes are seen in the skin’s surface, they are more likely secondary to a temporary change in the fluid content of the skin, not the cellulite itself. The same goes for Endormology.
