Filler for Lines Around the Mouth in 60’s

This patient is in her early 60’s, and like so many women that age, she has lines and shadows around her mouth, which were created by repeated facial expressions. Unfortunately, you really can’t use preventative Botox or other ‘Tox to reduce the intensity of these expressions and protect that skin – because you need to be able to drink from a straw and smile, right?!

So the answer is filler. Filler is used both in a deep plane to replace lost volume, and superficially to support the skin. We used 2 of our favorites in this patient: Defyne and Voluma. Voluma is stiff and lifting, so it’s great for replacing volume (fat, bone) that we lose as we age. Defyne, on the other hand, is specially formulated for this area, and is a cohesive gel filler, which is a new type of filler that acts like stretchy memory foam, which makes it a lot more durable than other fillers, especially for this area.
