Portrait® PSR has been clinically proven to stimulate a natural regenerative process of the skin and represents a dramatic leap forward in the science of beauty.

Portrait PSR was the first plasma-based cosmetic treatment to come on the market and the technology was very exciting. Unfortunately, it’s less comfortable and doesn’t provide any better treatments than other procedures we use more frequently, like Fraxel or RF Microneedling. So for these reasons, we rarely use Portrait PSR these days.
Portrait PSR uniquely addresses the growing demand for improvement in the appearance of aging and damaged skin, but with predictable downtime, and little to no risk of complications associated with other more aggressive treatments. While most treatments offer specific but limited results, Portrait offers unparalleled improvement in wrinkling, skin laxity, skin texture, acne scarring, pore size, and surface discoloration, all at the same time.

Portrait PSR Quick Facts

What is Portrait PSR And How Does It Work?

Portrait PSR For Facial Rejuvenation

The medical community has been using plasma — highly charged ionized gas — for many years. Known as Portrait, the Plasma Skin Regeneration procedure utilizes this technology to achieve wrinkle reduction, tightening, and improvement in skin tone and texture. Portrait is an effective treatment for:

Portrait works by delivering rapid pulses of nitrogen-based plasma to the skin’s surface. Nitrogen is a colorless, odorless gaseous element that is part of all living tissues and makes up 80% of the atmosphere. When introduced to ultra-high frequency energy, the nitrogen is converted into a highly energized state or plasma.

Unlike other skin rejuvenation treatments, Portrait leaves the skin surface intact. It works via an entirely different mode of action that is effective both at and below the skin’s surface. It stimulates the body to regenerate the damaged structural elements of the skin in a way that other technologies and treatments cannot.

As an alternative to this full energy treatment, we can provide a series of three low energy treatments, three to four weeks apart. This process, named Portrait Express requires no downtime. It’s possible to leave the office and go right back to your daily routine following this lower intensity treatment. With Portrait Express one may notice some mild redness of the skin and flaking over the next week. This is treated with moisturizer and sunblock.

Frequently Asked Questions About Portrait PSR

  • What will Portrait results be like?

The results seen following treatment get better over time, with clinical studies showing continuing improvement a year later — a unique and significant advantage that distinguishes Portrait.

  • Why is Portrait unique?

Unlike traditional treatments like chemical peels, dermabrasion, and lasers that work by taking away layers of skin, the Rhytec Portrait PSR treatment activates and stimulates the collagen beneath the surface of the skin, causing new, healthy skin to emerge more naturally. The top layer of the skin acts as a dressing while the skin is regenerating underneath. This is truly unique. Portrait improves both the surface of the skin and the supporting layers below as well. The results are apparent and long lasting.

Portrait can be used to treat the entire face or parts of the face. It can also be used to treat the neck, chest, and hands, as well as other areas of the body.

  • Is Portrait PSR right for me?
    • Individuals seeking to repair sun damaged skin and improve the appearance of age spots, discoloration, or hyperpigmentation
    • Individuals wanting to reduce the appearance of fine lines and deep wrinkles
    • Individuals wanting to tighten the skin
    • Individuals wanting to improve the overall skin tone and texture to recapture a youthful skin quality they have not enjoyed for years
    • Individuals wanting to reduce acne scarring and reduce pore size
    • Individuals seeking to remove pre-cancerous lesions
  • What is the treatment like?

Treatment for an entire face takes approximately 20-30 minutes; a regional treatment can be as short as 10–15 minutes. The most common regional areas to treat are the area around the eyes (including the lids) and the region surrounding the mouth. It is more common to treat the entire face. The neck can be treated at the same time as the face. From the handpiece, the plasma transfers its energy onto the skin without any direct contact, causing a very controlled heating of tissue.

  • What happens after treatment?

After the treatment, your skin might feel like you have a bad sunburn, but this subsides in approximately one hour. The skin appears red and mildly swollen. Over the next few days one will notice a bronzing effect in the skin, followed by peeling. When the skin peels, it is completely healed underneath and the results are quite noticeable.

Our patients’ transition from a heavier petroleum-like protection, such as Aquaphor),to a moisturizer during the week and stay out of the sun. There is no discomfort during this recuperative week.

  • When will I see results?

Improvement in sunspots, discoloration, surface texture and fine lines appear rapidly. Then over the next few months after you will see progressive improvement in wrinkles, skin tone, pore size, and laxity, giving you a new and more vibrant and youthful appearance. Clinical studies have shown that improvement in the skin continues for over one year.

  • How much does it cost?

Portrait PSR costs between $3,000 and $3,500 dollars for one treatment. Portrait Express costs between $750 to $850 dollars per treatment.

  • Is there downtime?

Depending on the types of conditions being treated and the degree of improvement desired, the treatment can be tailored to suit one’s lifestyle. Full energy treatments of the face require approximately five to six days of downtime. The period of recuperation resembles recovering from a bad sunburn.
