Reflections Center is proud to offer a wide variety of breast surgeries to our patients, performed by a board-certified plastic surgeon with over 20 years of experience, Dr. Joe Fodero.
Breast enlargement procedures are very common, with almost 1,000 women undergoing this procedure every single day in 2018 1.
Dr. Fodero has been performing breast implant surgeries for over 20 years, and really appreciates how life-changing this surgery can be. Women today take such good care of their bodies, and they deserve to feel confident. If you’ve been considering breast augmentation, Dr. Fodero would love to meet you and discuss your wants and needs.
There have been several new implant types to receive FDA-Approval in the U.S. in recent years. Dr. Fodero offers all of them, except for textured silicon implants, which were recently flagged as being connected to high risk for complication and illness.
In general, Dr. Fodero does tend to prefer silicone implants, as they give the most natural feel, and there are tried-and-true models that offer high safety ratings and durability. However, Dr. Fodero does also offer saline implants, and feels that this is an individual decision.
The Mommy Makeover has become a big trend in plastic surgery. It’s a catchy term, but what it really means is combining a tummy tuck with other procedures, often a breast lift and/or implant augmentation, to turn back the damage done by childbirth.
You can combine any or all of the breast surgeries listed here into a Mommy Makeover procedure.
Breast Reduction Surgery
Women with heavy, large breasts may want to undergo breast reduction surgery to reduce the size of their breasts. Often, these heavy breasts have sagged over time, and that may make a lift procedure necessary as well.
Oftentimes, women are very worried about the scars from Breast Reduction Surgery. It is true that for most women seeking a significant reduction in breast volume, and especially those with sagging issues, it will be difficult to avoid large scars. Those seeking a smaller change may be able to achieve their desired result with a scar-sparing procedure, like a donut lift (which places the scar line around the areola, instead of vertically along the bottom half of the breast).
Luckily, Reflections Center has a team of laser physicians who are very familiar with treating breast scars after surgery. We can start you on a laser protocol immediately after surgery to heal your scars quickly, and with as minimal visible scarring as possible.
With time, it seems nearly every inch of our body will sag. But the breasts seem to get there faster than other parts of our bodies. This is likely due to their fluctuations in size due to childbirth, weight gain and weight loss, and hormonal changes.
Many non-invasive procedures and minimally invasive procedures have attempted to replicate the results of a breast lift surgery, but when breasts begin to sag, nothing quite works like a surgery.
Luckily, breast lift surgery is generally not something that needs to be repeated (when performed correctly the first time).
Dr. Fodero uses a variety of techniques, including the traditional anchor lift (also called Inverted-T Lift), Vertical Lift (which is like an Anchor lift, but without the bottom line along the inframammary fold below the breast), and the Benelli lift (also called the Donut Lift or Scarless Lift (though it’s not completely scarless).
Tuberous breasts are the most common abnormal breast shape. Women with this concern have breasts that are more triangular or cone-shaped, as opposed to round. The tell-tale sign of this condition is a lack of rounding to the bottom of the breast below the areola.
Most patients with tuberous breast deformity will have asymmetry, too.
Oftentimes, breast tissue will have herniated (or broken through in the layers behind the skin of) the areola (the pink area surrounding the nipple). This can create overly puffy and large, three-dimensional nipples on a relatively small breast.
Dr. Fodero uses a careful reconstruction of the breast shape, as well as implants, to correct tuberous breasts. These are highly individualized cases, and the recovery can be more involved than a traditional breast implant surgery (with no lift), but the outcome is highly rewarding, especially for patients who have never felt comfortable with the shape of their breasts.
Male Breast Surgery (Gynecomastia)
Gynecomastia is when a male has overly-developed breast tissue that begins to resemble that of a female. It can be excess fat, enlarged glands, or both.
Sometimes, when it is just excess fat, this condition can be treated by liposuction alone.
But when glands are the issue, or when the skin has been damaged and stretched out by the weight of heavy breast tissues, surgical procedures are required.
Dr. Fodero is very sensitive to this concern and will work to create the least visible scars possible. In the case of scarring, patients can be treated with lasers to ensure a speedy fading of those scars.
The truth is: None of us is perfectly symmetrical, but for some women, breast asymmetry is noticeable and very bothersome.
There are 2 options when this is the case:
- Remove the excess on the larger breast to bring it into alignment with the size and shape of the other breast.
- Add an implant to the smaller breast to bring it into alignment with the size and shape of the other breast.
One thing that’s very important to know about breast asymmetry is that you really need to be evaluated by a physician for any underlying health issues, as this can be a sign of very serious medical concerns. Once that has been ruled out, surgery can happen. If you do find that there is a medical issue at play, Dr. Fodero can help you coordinate your surgery along with your health care, so that you achieve both health and full well-being.
