Aging tends to play a large role in the decline of the quality of our skin, among other uncontrollable factors. Wrinkles, lines, and volume loss can be treated with the Restylane dermal filler family. Restylane is a hyaluronic acid-based dermal filler that softens wrinkles and restores facial volume. Wrinkles and volume loss, whether a result of age, genetics, or sun exposure, can leave you looking older than you truly are. This special gel formulation counters these problems and revitalizes your appearance.
Hyaluronic acid is a substance that is naturally found in our biological makeup. This ingredient is a very important part of our skin’s structure and plays a huge role in maintaining a youthful appearance. Hyaluronic acid is responsible for binding water within the skin. Unfortunately, this natural substance tends to diminish over time, leading to a loss of skin elasticity. And as we age, our skin’s ability to retain water significantly decreases. Replenishing hyaluronic acid with Restylane injections can restore smooth skin and youthful contours.

Most Common Uses for Restylane Injections
Restylane works by replenishing diminished hyaluronic acid within the skin to restore volume and smooth skin. This filler should be injected into the areas of the face where the body’s support structure has weakened.
Indentations and depressions on the face can be filled to be level with the surrounding skin. This filler is also beneficial for smoothing out wrinkles and creases such as nasolabial folds and marionette lines.
Additionally, Restylane can be used to add volume to the lips. Our expert injectors can provide natural-looking results for smoothing out lip lines, filling in lost volume, or augmenting a full pout, depending on the patient’s personal preference.
Restylane Injection Treatment Areas
Restylane can be used to treat many different cosmetic concerns on the face. The specific areas on the face that this specific Restylane formulation can be used include:
- Undereye hollows (by far, our most common use for Restylane Filler)
- Nasolabial folds
- Marionette lines
- Lips
- Jowl area
- Glabella lines
- Forehead lines
If you have concerns other than those listed above, Restylane has different formulations to treat different problem areas. During your Restylane treatment, an ultra-fine needle or cannula will be inserted into the skin. Cannulas are utilized the majority of the time because they offer reduced risks and minimize swelling and bruising. The Restylane solution will be injected in small amounts strategically throughout the treatment area to provide volume or an even surface while appearing natural-looking. This process will be repeated until your desired results are achieved. The treatment lasts about 15-30 minutes and you will be able to return to your daily routine immediately after treatment.
- Recovery & Downtime: Avoid strenuous activity for 12 hours, avoid rubbing the area for 24 hours
- Numbing: Local anesthetic mixed in, additional anesthetic optional
- Cost: $650 per syringe
- Candidacy: Anyone looking to fill wrinkles and lines throughout the face
- Duration: 6-9 months
- Why We Love It: It doesn’t swell like many fillers do, making it a great filler for creating detail-oriented results

This can be discussed during your consultation.
Here are some of the many reasons patients can feel at ease when choosing our practice:
Experience – Our physicians do this all day, every day, as their chosen profession (vs. other injectors who may only perform them every so often), and we’ve won the Allergan Diamond Level Award for over 5 years running and the Galderma Presidential Award every year since its inception for our level of experience.
Skilled – Our doctors have a reputation for natural-looking results and we are committed to mastering the latest injection techniques, to be able to offer the very best cosmetic care in New Jersey.
Trained – Our doctors undergo hands-on, in-depth training for their injection techniques, as well as a rigorous assessment of their skill before they ever join our team. Those who do join our team are very skilled, and are often asked to train other physicians on proper injection technique.
During your consultation, your physician will discuss in detail what your treatment options are and the specific advantages that are associated with the particular injectable. You and the doctor will then work together to decide which treatment will be the best option. The particular filler that is chosen for you will be based on the depth of wrinkles and creases and the location of the aesthetic concerns. We work hard to provide each and every one of our patients with natural-looking results that leave you looking refreshed and feeling youthful. Frequently Asked Questions On Restylane
- What does it feel like?
When undergoing Restylane injections, you may feel a slight tingling sensation initially from the needle. Restylane contains an ingredient called lidocaine, which is a type of local anesthetic that provides a numbing effect during the injection. Typically, our patients find that this treatment is very comfortable.
- Do I need anesthesia?
The Restylane injection process as a whole is quick and comfortable. Although Restylane already contains a form of local anesthetic, patients may want further numbing to provide added comfort during the injections. For situations such as this, we can apply a topical anesthetic or nerve blocks (numbing injections that are done directly into nerve bundles to ensure the patient feels absolutely nothing) to the treatment area. Nerve blocks are preferred by many of our doctors for lip injections, but patients can decide for themselves. They typically last 4-5 hours so some patients don’t prefer this numbing agent.
- What is the cost of Restylane?
The price of dermal fillers starts at $650 per syringe. We offer discounts when more than 1 syringe is purchased at the same time. You can also boost your savings by participating in our Rewards Plus program. Purchases over $1,000 can be financed. In order to receive your personalized quote, we ask that you contact our office and request a one-on-one consultation with one of our expert injectors today!
- What is the recovery for Restylane?
After your treatment, you may notice slight redness of the skin and mild swelling. This should subside within a few hours, however, swelling can vary from a few hours to 48 hours, depending on the area treated. We take steps to avoid bruising – including Accuvein and cannulas. We also offer free laser treatments in the case that they develop any bruising. Patients can minimize the risk of bruising by avoiding intense blood pressure-elevating activities for the first 12 hours after treatment. However, it is not required and does not pose a health threat to exercise, even intensely, following treatment. They should be careful not to vigorously rub or massage the treated area for at least 24 hours. Light touching of the treated area, such as washing the face, is not a problem.
There is no downtime necessary after Restylane injections, so you are free to leave the office after your treatment and return to your normal routines. The results for Restylane injections can be seen immediately, but the final outcome will be visible once the swelling and bruising fully dissipates.
- How many Restylane treatments will I need?
One treatment will significantly reduce signs of facial aging and volume loss. After the injections, you will notice an improvement in facial contour and smoothness of your skin. However, it is important to note that the results are not permanent. You will need to return for recurrent treatment in order to maintain your youthful results.
- How long does it last?
Once you have received your Restylane treatment, the results will typically last six to nine months, depending upon the individual and the area treated. For lip enhancement, the results will last 4-5 months. Because we are constantly using our lips, the components that make up this injectable tend to break down more quickly than other areas on the face, such as the smile lines. Depending on the location of the injection, the duration of the results will vary. During your initial consultation, one of our injection specialists will be able to provide more information about the longevity of your Restylane treatments.
- Who is an ideal candidate for Restylane?
Both men and women can be candidates for Restylane treatments. If you are looking to reduce certain signs of aging on the face or wanting to enhance certain features such as your lips, you may be a good candidate to receive this volumizing treatment. You should not have any underlying skin conditions that can negatively impact the effectiveness of the injectable. We ask that you maintain realistic expectations for this treatment, as it will not provide the same results as a surgical procedure.
If you have severe skin laxity on the face, dermal fillers may not provide you with the results you are looking to obtain. Injectables treat mild to moderate skin imperfections. If your concerns require more in-depth treatment, a different procedure may be better suited. Reflections Center offers numerous alternative treatments for skin laxity. During a consultation with your physician, the doctor can evaluate your particular case and make the best treatment recommendation to provide you with your desired results.
- Do Restylane bumps go away?
Most of the time, bumps that you feel directly after injections is just pin-point swelling. We counsel our patients to give themselves 2 weeks to fully recover from the injection in order to evaluate any bumps or lumps. 90% of the time, it will resolve during that time, and it’s truly just a firm spot that was disrupted a bit more than the surrounding tissues during injection. These are often spots you can feel, but can’t see. Beyond that 2 weeks, if you still have lumps or bumps, we can have you come back in for an evaluation. We can always dissolve Restylane – but rarely need to do so.
- Does Restylane help dark circles?
Yes! Restylane is a great filler for dark circles. We cover filler for dark circles in much more detail on our dark circles treatments page.
- Can you drink after Restylane?
We recommend you not drink for the 24 hours before and after your injections with Restylane or any other type of filler, because alcohol thins the blood. With any blood thinner (including alcohol, Vitamin E, pain relievers, and prescription blood thinners), a small bruise can turn into a much bigger bruise, and we know our patients want to avoid bruising from fillers. However, it doesn’t really pose a true health risk to drink after Restylane injections – it’s just a precaution to help reduce the risks of bruising. So don’t worry if you forget and accidentally have a glass of wine after.
- Can you lay down after Restylane?
Sure! In fact, we sometimes inject Restylane while you’re laying down! Filler, once placed, isn’t going to move around unless you vigorously rub or massage it. We do recommend you avoid traditional face-down massages for at least 24 hours after injection, though.
