Dysport is another brand of the same neuromodulator protein in Botox that helps to relax away wrinkles.

If you’ve heard there are other brands of toxins on the market (besides Botox), you’ve probably heard about Dysport. And chances are, you’ve heard some interesting things: that it kicks in sooner, is cheaper, and even creates a more natural effect, but is any of that true? In this video, Dr. Michelle Ellern, a Cosmetic & Laser Physician at our New Jersey offices, explains everything you need to know about Dysport.

If you’re looking for soft, natural results for your dynamic wrinkles, Dysport® is a great treatment option. Dysport relaxes the overactive muscles that create wrinkles, allowing currently wrinkled skin to relax and smooth itself out and preventing new wrinkles from forming. In the hands of our experienced physician injectors, Dysport offers some of the most natural-looking wrinkle relaxing results we’ve ever seen.

“I've seen tons of people where it looks really, I mean it's so overdone it looks like it may pop. So I didn't want to look like that at all, and Dr. Chasin is so good about that. What I love about him is he does not hesitate to tell you no.”

Frequently Asked Questions About Dysport

  • How does Dysport compare to Botox?

On a molecular level, Dysport is a slightly smaller molecule than Botox and offers less of a protein load than Botox. What does that mean for patients?

    • This shorter molecule allows Dysport to affect the muscles faster, creating a result in 2-3 days versus 5-7 with Botox. This also may mean your body metabolizes the Dysport a little faster.
    • Dysport works well for those that have become “resistant” or allergic to Botox. Rarely patients can develop antibodies against Botox, usually only after many repeated treatments. When this happens, Dysport is a great alternative.
  • Will Botox last longer than Dysport?

In our experience, both Botox and Dysport tend to last around 3-4 months.

  • What is Dysport used for?

Dysport can be used for temporary cosmetic treatment of wrinkles and folds in areas like the forehead and around the eyes. Additionally, it can be used for temporary medical treatment of muscle spasms like cervical dystonia. Other uses are considered off-label, and our cosmetic physicians can explain more about these treatment options.

  • How long does it take for Dysport to work?

One benefit is that Dysport can take effect within a shorter timeframe than Botox. Most patients begin to notice results at around 2-3 days after treatment.

  • How many units of Dysport do I need per area?

This can be difficult to determine without a private consultation with our cosmetic physicians. We can assess your unique treatment areas and determine how much product will be needed. We can also give you a full estimate of your cost based on the number of units required.

Typically, for wrinkle reduction injections in the forehead, frown lines, and/or crow’s feet, treatments start at around $250.

  • Is Dysport a filler? What's the difference?

Dysport is classified as a neuromodulator, similar to Botox and Xeomin. It doesn’t create volume under the skin like a filler would, but rather prevents muscles from contracting as intensely by blocking some of the chemical signals. Many patients opt for dermal filler treatments along with Dysport for best results.

  • How much does Dysport cost? Is it more or less than Botox?

Dysport and Botox units are not equivalent. So we have matched up the pricing to make the results from Dysport and Botox evenly priced. Dysport is $6.40 per unit, whereas Botox is $17.00 per unit. However, to get the equivalent effect, you’ll need 2.5x the number of Dysport units, making their total cost for a treatment exactly the same at our offices.

This price reflects not only the cost of the products but more importantly the skill and experience of our award-winning physician injectors. The majority of the result you see from any injectable cosmetic treatment is due to the injector’s skill. A skilled injector knows the nuance of creating lift, natural movement, and lasting results – in short, how to highlight and enhance your natural beauty.

  • Can Dysport be used for crow's feet?

Yes! Dysport helps slow down the squinting muscles that cause crows feet, and smooths out wrinkles in that area.

  • Can Dysport be used on forehead?

Yes! Dysport is great for creating a soft, natural relaxation of forehead wrinkles.

  • Can Dysport be used under eyes?

Yes! We can use Dysport to help reduce some wrinkles under the eyes. By relaxing the muscles that causes your lower eyelid to lift during squinting, we can help reduce horizontal wrinkling in that area.

  • Can Dysport lift your eyebrows?

Yes! When injected to create a nonsurgical browlift, Dysport can be used to lift your eyebrows. Our expert physician injectors know how to create a natural-looking (and moving) eyebrow lift.

  • Can you get Dysport after Botox?

Sure! Dysport and Botox can be used one after the other, or even at the same time by the same patient, so long as they are being injected by someone who understands how to use both safely. Our physician injectors will help you choose the right product(s) for you, and inject them in the way that will create the most natural results.
