Knowing what to look for can be helpful, but your best bet is meeting with an experienced cosmetic physician who can guide you through your options and goals. In the meantime, here’s what to know about some of our best Fraxel treatments and what sets them apart.

Best Laser for Beginners: Clear + Brilliant®

Clear + Brilliant® is a classic light laser that can be a great entry point for new patients. It’s a lighter version of the Fraxel DUAL and similarly offers two different handpieces, called the Perméa® and the 1440. Perméa is an excellent option for mild concerns like skin pigmentation and discoloration, especially for younger patients with melasma. On the other hand, the 1440 handpiece can target texture and visible pores. Since it’s best to avoid using both handpieces within the same treatment session, you’ll have to pick between the two – however, the biggest benefit of Clear + Brilliant is its drastically reduced downtime, which means you can return to your schedule the next day with only a little dryness. For best results, you can undergo treatments monthly with little impact on your schedule. Overall, Clear + Brilliant comes with virtually no side effects and can be a gentle and low-hassle way to address your concerns.

Most Customizable Laser: Fraxel re:store DUAL

Fraxel DUAL is a more high-powered version of Clear + Brilliant. It offers two unique handpieces, called the 1927 and the 1550. The 1927 handpiece is one of the best options for pigmentation, especially brown spots and sun damage, whereas the 1550 handpiece can treat deeper concerns like visible aging, pore visibility, scarring, and texture. The best part about the Fraxel DUAL laser is that both handpieces can be used within the same session, meaning treatments can be much more customizable and effective when you’re looking to address more than one concern. Afterward, you’ll experience some redness for about 3-5 days. To fully treat your concerns, you’ll likely need a package of treatments customized to your goals. If your goals include more than one skin concern or you’re looking to graduate from the Clear + Brilliant system, Fraxel DUAL laser treatment may be the right option for you.

Best One-and-Done Laser: Fraxel Re:pair

If you’re looking for the most transformative results for your money, then the Fraxel Re:pair laser is for you. A CO2 laser, it’s the most intense Fraxel treatment and aggressively treats deeper skin concerns like scars or deep-set aging signs. Additionally, because it’s an aggressive treatment, it can have a tightening effect on the skin. During treatment, you’ll require a local injection to numb the area. After treatment, you can expect to take time away from your schedule (about 7-10 days) to give your skin time to recover. Side effects like redness, crusting, and weeping can be expected during your Fraxel laser recovery, and your cosmetic physician will give you detailed instructions to follow on caring for your skin. Despite the downtime, the biggest benefit of the Fraxel CO2 laser is that only a single treatment is needed to address your tough skin concerns. So, if you’re looking for a one-and-done way to transform your skin, this can be a great option.
