By now, you all know how we feel about PRP injections for hair loss. Game-changing. So that’s why it was no surprise that when Carli Bybel heard about the benefits, she knew that her mom had to give it a try. Carli’s mom is a beautiful (and very sweet) woman who like many is struggling with female pattern hair loss. Female pattern hair loss is the pattern or areas in which women typically experience thinning hair. Carli knew her mom wanted to try a treatment like this for a while and decided to treat her mom to the full Reflections PRP treatment!
Female Pattern Baldness
Female pattern baldness is similar to male pattern baldness in that it can be caused by similar factors; however, the areas in which hair thinning begins tends to differ. Female pattern baldness often starts by a widening part and the general feeling of your hair getting thinner when you pull it back into a ponytail. Carli’s mother was experiencing something similar, with a widening part and noticing just noticing an overall thinner hair.
Causes of Female Pattern Baldness
Baldness or hair loss is a term mostly used for excessive hair loss from the scalp. Hair loss could affect just the scalp or your entire body and can result from several factors including genetics, hormonal changes, medication or a medical condition. Since hair loss is caused by different reasons, the remedies are also varied depending on these reasons. Hair loss could be gradual or sudden, and some of it is merely temporary while some kind of hair loss can be permanent.
The most common kind of hair loss begins with gradual thinning at the top and it could affect both men and women of any age. Hair restoration for women employs a different technique since women have different symptoms. They retain their hairline and instead suffer from broadening or gaps within the hair. Carli being a beauty influencer, finds out about the latest treatments for all kinds of aesthetic concerns and after seeing her mom looking into hair restoration treatments for awhile decided to bring her in for some PRP injections to remedy her female pattern hair loss.
Treatments for Thinning Hair
Today there are more options than ever to help you regrow your hair, fuller and thicker than ever before! But like most people, Carli’s mom was skeptical about which treatments actually work. At Reflections Center, we’ve done our homework when it comes to treatment safety and efficacy and we are proud to have found a handful of options to offer our patients.
PRP for Thinning Hair
Platelet Rich Plasma (PRP) Injections have gained a lot of popularity over the past couple of years as a treatment for hair loss as well as skin rejuvenation. Dr. Chasin’s favorite part about this treatment is that there is hard science behind PRP that proves it is very effective, in addition to it being an easy and natural procedure without major downtime.
What drew Carli and her mom to this treatment was the ability to regrow hair naturally using nothing but the healing and growth potential of PRP. She joked that she hopes to have a full head of hair like Farah Fawcett by the time she’s done with treatments. Needless to say, this was a very fun treatment session getting to know Carli and her mom.
Platelet-rich plasma is a procedure through which we isolate and concentrate the growth factors from a patient’s own blood, and then inject it into the scalp.
PRP not only stimulates the growth of new and dormant follicles but also the thickness of hair in the treated area has been shown to increase significantly. The best part? results are all your own and completely natural.
However, something to look out for is that not all PRP treatments are created equal. This is because not all PRP systems concentrate and isolate the platelets. This is something Dr. Chasin is very aware of, which is why Dr. Chasin has spent the time to research the available kits to ensure we offer the highest and purest concentrations for our patients.
Because of this, many people have asked us why PRP is so expensive and offering our patients the most effective treatments is part of the answer. As expected, the most effective PRP concentration kits tend to be more expensive. These kits at a minimum are as costly as a dermal filler to our practice. It should come as no surprise however that cheap alternatives at other practices won’t get you nearly as good of a result for your money.
Microneedling stimulates the skin to remodel and restore itself. As for the scalp, this helps to stimulate a bigger response by the body when using topical or injectable treatments for hair loss. The addition of microneedling leads to the activation of dormant follicles and a greater regrowth of hair. Microneedling is sometimes used to help the PRP further penetrate the scalp; however, Dr. Chasin prefers to inject PRP deep into the scalp, in addition to microneedling, for more comprehensive results.
Lasercap® is a Low-Laser Light Therapy device that’s worn 30 minutes 3 times per week, with results within about 12 weeks. It doesn’t get much more effortless than this! During Carli and her mom’s visit, she put the cap on for a bit of a laugh and found out that you can actually take the light therapy component out and put it into a more stylish hat if you’d like. This cap uses the same low-level laser red light we use in our practice to promote healing and growth after treatment as we did after her mom’s injections.
Supplements & Products to Add to Your Routine
In addition to in-office treatments, patients often want to know what they can use on a daily basis to maintain or enhance their results they have found with in-office treatments at Reflections. Dr. Chasin recommends the three supplements below which are backed by clinical evidence. At Reflections, we’ve found them to be highly effective for our patients, especially when used in combination with other treatments as part of the long-term maintenance plan for patients who have already undergone hair restoration treatments.
- Nutrafol – a new supplement with some exciting clinical results. A new study that came out in May 2018 demonstrating incredible results.
- Viviscal – Backed by over 20 years of clinical research, and contains vital nutrients essential for healthy hair growth.
