Refyne vs. Defyne [Restylane’s Newest Fillers Compared]

Refyne and Defyne are very similar, but they do have some differences.
Defyne is meant more for changing contours. It’s firmer and provides structure to it’s results.
Refyne is meant more for smoothing out lines and creating subtle changes. Refyne offers more flexion, so it’s preferred for closer to the surface injections and high-movement areas, like the lips.
Defyne is more likely to be used for jawline contouring.

Deep wrinkles and lines are formed on the face as a result of significant volume loss in the skin. Through cosmetic treatments, we can correct more advanced signs of aging and attain a naturally youthful aesthetic. We pride ourselves on providing every one of our patients with natural-looking results that leave you feeling rejuvenated and more youthful. There are specific advantages that are associated with Restylane Defyne. You and the cosmetic physician can then work together to decide which treatment will be the best option to achieve your desired results.

How Does Restylane Defyne Work?

Restylane Defyne works by replacing diminished hyaluronic acid within the skin to reduce the look of deep lines and wrinkles, such as the nasolabial folds. This filler should be injected in the areas of the face in which the body’s support structure has become weak. This is done in an “upstream” technique to lift and restore natural volume in all of the right areas. Restylane Defyne can also be injected into deep wrinkles to reduce the indentations and create an even surface and texture to the skin. The components of this particular Restylane product allows it to treat even deeper folds and creases than ever before.

Restylane Defyne

Restylane Defyne is used to reduce deep-set lines and wrinkles on the face. This Restylane product, in particular, can be used to:

  • Address moderate to deep wrinkles and folds
  • Fill in nasolabial folds (the lines that run from the corners of the nose to the corners of the mouth)
  • Provide facial rejuvenation in the lower face around the mouth
  • Smooth marionette lines (the wrinkles that form between the corners of the mouth and the chin and jawline)
  • Jawline contouring
  • Cheek contouring
  • Deep nasojugal groove
  • Brow lift

During your Restylane Defyne treatment, an ultra-fine needle or cannula will be inserted into the skin where the wrinkles and lines reside. Our doctors make use of cannulas whenever possible because it reduces some of the most serious risks of complication, as well as the risk of swelling and bruising. The gel solution will then be injected strategically throughout the treatment area to provide an even skin surface while still looking very natural. The injections will be done in small amounts until the concerns have been reduced or corrected and will be repeated until the desired goals have been met. The treatment lasts about 15-30 minutes with no downtime at all. You will be able to return to your daily activities immediately following the treatment.

  • Recovery & Downtime: None necessary
  • Numbing: None required, topical anesthetic optional
  • Cost: $750 per syringe
  • Candidacy: Those looking to treat deeper folds or who want facial contouring at the jawline
  • Duration: 10-12 months
  • Why We Love It: Defyne looks more natural and holds up better under movement in deep dynamic (caused by motion) wrinkles and lines

What is Restylane Defyne?

Restylane Defyne is a hyaluronic acid-based dermal filler that softens the look of nasolabial folds and marionette lines on the face, addresses deep folds, cheek, and jawline contouring, and can also be used to lift to the brows. Nasolabial folds run from the sides of your nose toward the corners of your mouth, and marionette lines run from the corner of your mouth toward the chin. These wrinkles can appear due to age, sun exposure, repetitive use of certain facial expressions, but most often, loss of skin elasticity due to diminishing hyaluronic acid.

Hyaluronic acid is a natural-occurring molecule within our skin, that is an essential part of our skin’s structure.

However, this natural substance often begins to degenerate with age and constant facial movement, causing nasolabial folds and marionette lines to form. Replenishing the hyaluronic acid that has been lost can soften these wrinkles while also creating a stronger skin structure.

A main and recent benefit of Restylane Defyne is that it is comprised of special XpresHAn technology. The unique cross-linking of the gel in Restylane Defyne helps to soften even the deepest lines to provide a more youthful appearance and allow you to maintain a natural appearance and movement.

Frequently Asked Questions About Restylane Defyne

  • Who is an ideal candidate for Restylane Defyne?

Men and women looking to correct certain signs of aging on the face through a non-surgical procedure can be candidates for Restylane Defyne treatments. It is important that you do not have any underlying skin conditions that can negatively impact the effectiveness of this injectable. We ask that you maintain realistic expectations for this treatment because it does not provide the same results as a surgical procedure.

If you have severe skin laxity and wrinkles throughout the face, dermal fillers may not provide you with the aesthetic goal you are looking to achieve. The Restylane Defyne injectable can treat mild to moderate skin imperfections, so if your concerns require more in-depth treatment, you may be better suited for a more invasive treatment option. Reflections Center offers a variety of beneficial alternatives to treat severe cases of skin laxity. During the consultation with your cosmetic physician, they can evaluate your particular case and make the best treatment recommendation to provide you with optimal results.

  • How does Restylane Defyne work?

Restylane Defyne works by replacing diminished hyaluronic acid within the skin to reduce the look of deep lines and wrinkles, such as the nasolabial folds. This filler should be injected in the areas of the face in which the body’s support structure has become weak. This is done in an “upstream” technique to lift and restore natural volume in all of the right areas. Restylane Defyne can also be injected into deep wrinkles to reduce indentations and create an even surface and texture for the skin. The components of this particular Restylane product allow it to treat deeper folds and creases than ever before.

  • What does it feel like?

Restylane Defyne injections are easy and comfortable, however, a topical numbing cream or nerve block can be used to provide additional comfort. When receiving the injections, you may experience a slight tingling sensation. All Restylane products contain an ingredient called lidocaine which is a form of local anesthetic that is used to numb the treated area while being injected. Patients have reported that these injections are comfortable.

  • Do I need anesthesia?

You may experience some initial discomfort during the injections; however, the treatment is quick and easy. An anesthetic is usually not necessary. Restylane Defyne already contains a form of local anesthetic, you may want additional numbing to provide further comfort during your injections.

For situations such as this, your cosmetic physician can apply a topical anesthetic or nerve blocks (numbing injections directly into nerve bundles) to the treatment area. During your consultation, our numbing options will be explained in more detail.

  • What is the recovery like for Restylane Defyne?

Once your treatment is complete, you may experience mild redness, pinpoint bleeding, and/or swelling. These symptoms are common and will subside on their own. Swelling can last from a few hours to two days depending on the region that is being treated. To avoid bruising, we use Accuvein and cannulas. If you develop bruising, we offer free laser treatments to eliminate the discoloration.

You can reduce the risk of potential bruising by avoiding blood pressure-elevating activities for the first 12 hours after treatment. However, this is not required and poses no threat to exercise after the treatment. It is important that you do not vigorously rub or massage the treated area for at least one day following the injections. Light touching of the treated area, such as washing the face, is not a problem.

There is no downtime necessary after Restylane Defyne injections, so you will be able to leave the office right after the treatment and return to your daily routines. The results for Restylane Defyne injections can be seen immediately, but best results can be seen once swelling and redness has subsided, usually within a few days.

  • What is the cost of Restylane Defyne?

The cost of dermal fillers starts at $650 at our practice. However, we do offer discounted prices when more than one syringe is purchased at the same time. Additionally, you can improve your savings by being a part of our Rewards Plus program. More detailed information regarding our rewards program will be discussed during the initial consultation. Purchases over $1,000 do have the option to be financed if needed. To receive your custom quote, contact our office and schedule your free consultation with one of our expert injectors today!

  • How many Restylane treatments will I need?

One treatment is all you will need to see improvement, but may not be all you need to achieve your desired aesthetic results.

After the injections, the deep-set wrinkles and creases in the facial skin will be significantly reduced, and you will see an improvement in facial contour, as well as the smoothness of your skin. We do want to inform patients that the results for Restylane Defyne are not permanent. You will need to return for recurrent treatment to maintain the age-defying results.

  • How long does it last?

After receiving your Restylane Defyne injections, the results will last about 10-12 months. Over 70% of patients continued to see results after 6 months. Depending on the location of the injection, the duration of the results will vary.1

If the treatment is placed into an area of constant facial movement, this may shorten the longevity of this filler. Constant movements, like smiling or frowning, can break down the components in Restylane Defyne, requiring recurrent treatment sooner than you would otherwise. During your initial consultation, one of our cosmetic physicians will be able to provide you with more information about the longevity of your Restylane Defyne treatments.
